Dear Entrepreneur,

Why are we so afraid to own our success as women entrepreneurs? 

I am so tired of hearing conversations like this… 

“My business generated over $17,000,000 but I don’t share that with you to brag, I share that with you to show you what’s possible!” 

Hot Damn! Yes, my first franchise business did generate over $17,000,000, and I share that with you because I am SUPER proud of that! 

But why do we feel the need to add in “but I don’t share that with you to brag”? (I mean I personally never add that in, but so many women (and men) do it and it’s a problem, here’s why) 

While it’s nice to be humble, people need someone to look up to...a Leader! 

Colin Boyd nailed this in his podcast, How to Become More Charismatic. He explained that true leaders have a magnetic spark—and that spark is charisma! 

Which Colin goes on to say is made up of two characteristics… Vulnerability & Invincibility! 

Being a leader means that others are watching you, which leads to them wanting to mirror you! 

And if you are downplaying your success, you’re teaching them to do the same. 

And that’s just not right! 

We have worked hard for our success, and we deserve to share it with others, without feeling the need to be apologetic about it! 

Every time you add “but I don’t share that with you to brag,” you are shrinking your success and your achievement! 

This creates a ripple effect which others see, then emulate because they think that’s what leaders should do. 

And as leaders our job is to inspire, empower and cheer on others for their success! (this is actually something that I personally thrive on) 

So how do we own our success and confidently share it without shrinking ourselves? 

According to Colin, we need to have a nice balance between Vulnerability and Invincibility.  

Meaning we need to be at the intersection of humility and achievements. We want to be seen as a beautiful/lovely human being who is warm, welcoming and inviting but who is also successful and has enjoyed their success. 

• Being humble and vulnerable will get you a lot of friends but not a lot of followers (if you’re on the far end of the spectrum, this may be why you have lots of likes but not lots of revenue). 
• Being egotistical or untouchable will get you a lot of sales but not a lot of friends (if you’re on the far end of the spectrum, this may be why you have a lot of sales but no friends). 

Colin goes on to give to give this example – Think of Superman—he’s just like us as Clark Kent, but he also has superpowers. That blend of relatability (vulnerability) and strength (invincibility) is what makes him magnetic. As a leader, you need both. 

To sum this up, it all comes down to BALANCE! 

You’ll never be perfectly 50/50, but being aware of where you fall on the spectrum—and how that’s perceived as an entrepreneurial leader—makes all the difference.
