Dear Entrepreneur,
Why the “old boys network” will always dominate!
When a businessman invites another businessman to “play golf” the recipient businessman knows immediately that somewhere during those 18 holes that some sort of proposal or pitch will be made.
This allows the recipient to prepare himself for this conversation. A true professional will assess his business relationship with the other man and break down a few things of what he may want before they “play golf”.
To my knowledge (and I’ve been in business 17+ years) women do not have any code word or place where we make deals.
🤔Could this be the secret to why women are not equal to men in business YET?
🤔Is there more to the “old boys club” that we are missing?
🤔If we had a code word to talk business, would this remove the icky emotions so many feel?
Recently I was having a conversation with two amazing businesswomen who are struggling to grow because being salesy does not feel good to them.
I shared with them one of my favorite business stories that literally smacked me in the face!
When I started my first business, a senior home care franchise, I went to new owner training in May 2007 and they taught us to make 40 visits a week to referral sources.
I went home, opened my doors and dove into all the things that new entrepreneurs need to do – marketing, sales, billing, payroll, customer service, hiring, and even providing care to clients.
So, when the franchisor came out to check on me in those first 90 days, they asked me “How many visits have you been making weekly to referral sources?”
I meekly replied “About 20…”
I will never forget this next part because it was the smack in the face I needed!
The coach looked at me and said, “Do You Want To Be BROKE?”
“Of course, not”, I stammered!
And she replied, “Then do 40 visits a week!”
Fast forward a couple years and I was celebrating a million-dollar business and a 6-figure salary!
The franchisor knew what it took to get a new franchisee to their desired result – a 6-figure salary!
And so, what did they do???
They designed a system, and they taught it to every new franchisee!
So back to my conversation with those two women…
I summed up my story by saying when you develop a sales system (or really any system) it removes any icky emotions you have attached to something because all you must do is focus on executing the system steps!
I do this, then this, then that, and voila I get the desired result (and feel good too)!
✅SYSTEMS Smoosh Icky Emotions!
✅SYSTEMS Seal Deals!
✅SYSTEMS Scale Businesses!
And this is exactly what businessmen do!
They have a system!
They know if they want to make a deal, they need to invite another businessman out to “play golf” and schmooze them during those 18 holes! Hopefully it leads to a deal or at least a more formal meeting in some fancy boardroom!
