One of the major lessons I have learned in business is you have to be grateful for what you have before you can be granted more!

This can sometimes be hard because we are so focused on growth, we do not take time to appreciate the customers or clients we already do have! It’s like they say, it’s easier to grow your business with the current clients you have vs always searching for new ones! And if you want to Live More and Work Less, why not help your current clients with more services vs always searching for new ones!

In my first business, this meant, providing quality care, making sure the families and clients knew about all the services we were able to provide, and consistently visiting the client to ensure we had the appropriate number of hours to provide exceptional care.

For most businesses, there are many simple ways you can show appreciation and today I am sharing with you a few ideas I have used through my career!

The definition of gratitude is simple – readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness! But for some reason, gratitude has become non-existent or overdone in my opinion!

So, in this episode I wanted to share some simple ideas I have used in my businesses through the years to express my gratitude for my clients!

Idea #1 –

A simple, heartful thank you in person face to face! I know this is not possible with every business, but if you do still meet with your clients or customers, it always means so much, when you take the time to focus, look them in the eye, and tell them thank you! Go a step further and tell them why you are thankful for them and what their business means to you! Customize it to their specific situation as a bonus!

Idea #2 –

A handwritten card from Hallmark! Does it have to be Hallmark, absolutely not, but what I mean by this is a one-of-a-kind card, not one from a stack of 10 you have sitting in your drawer! When you choose a card for an individual, it means you took the time to find the perfect one for them. And when you write a personal note, that goes even farther! I learned the power of handwritten cards from my mom and as she says, “She should have bought stock in Hallmark!” PS Don’t forget to handwrite the address and use a real stamp, not a postage machine!

Idea #3 –

A small personal gift picked out for that particular client. Do you have special relationships with your clients that when you see something, you think immediately of them! Why not grab that item, if its small, and surprise them with it! A kind, no holiday needed, gift goes a long way in business!

Idea #4 –

If your client is a business, why not showcase them to your network! You can add them to your newsletter, do a post on social media or even interview them on your YouTube Show or Podcast. This idea shows your audience you value your clients and enjoy supporting them!

Idea #5 –

Making a charitable gift in honor of your client is a way to support them and another organization! Many people have a favorite charity they support because it is important to them for a certain reason. If you learn in your conversations about one that is most important to them, why not make a donation in their name. Most charities will send them a card letting them know the donation was made in their honor!

Idea #6 –

One of the easiest ways to show appreciation for your client or customer, is just to ask them what they may need help with! You never know what projects they are working on behind the scenes that you may be able to help with! If you don’t ask, you will never know! So next time you see them, chat with them, or email them, why not just ask “Hey Mary! I truly appreciate the support you have for my business! Is there anything I can do to support you?” I have found these conversations lead to deeper relationships where you learn so much more about your client and what they have going on!

Once you start to truly appreciate and cultivate the relationships with your current clients, you should see an increase in business! They might purchase again, upgrade their packages and services, or even make referrals to your business which in my opinion is the highest compliment you can get!

Summary:

In summary, many businesses forget to keep up the cultivation process once they gain a new client. Review the practices and systems you have in your business today to see where you and your team can improve.
